Dodgers Highlights: Max Muncy & Mookie Betts Carry Offense Against Giants

After a three-game losing streak, the Los Angeles Dodgers got back in the win column thanks to a strong pitching performance from Julio Urías and an offensive outburst led by Max Muncy and Mookie Betts.

The Dodgers jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Betts hit a leadoff homer, his second long ball of the year. Betts’ 37th career leadoff home run increased the their win probability by 10.1% to set the tone early.

In the third inning, Muncy blasted his second home run of the season as well, a three-run shot that put the Dodgers up 4-0 and put their win probability at 85.3%.

The Giants added a run back on a solo homer from Wilmer Flores, but that was all they were able to put together against Urías and the Dodgers’ pitching staff.

The 4-1 score remained the same until the Dodgers rallied in the seventh when James Outman led off the inning with a walk. He then proceeded to steal second and came around to score when Betts singled.

Freddie Freeman and Will Smith singled with some help from a defensive miscue from Flores, and Muncy took advantage of the mistake with a grand slam to put the Dodgers up 9-1.

Urías finished his day pitching six innings, giving up just one run on four hits before the bullpen combined for three scoreless innings. Alex Vesia ran into some trouble by loading the bases, but recorded two strikeouts before Yency Almonte retired the side.

Max Muncy becomes second player with 7 RBI

The grand slam in the five-run seventh inning gave Muncy seven RBI on the night, which made him the second player in MLB to reach that mark in a game this season. He joined his teammate Trayce Thompson, who drove in eight runs on three homers in the Dodgers’ third game of the season.

In addition, the seven RBI in a game was Muncy’s career high.
