Dodgers Highlights: Max Muncy’s Game-Tying Hits, Mookie Betts Walk-Off Single Against Diamondbacks

The Los Angeles Dodgers were facing the prospect of a third consecutive loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, but a ninth-inning rally led them to their 104th win of the season.

The D-Backs took an early lead in the third inning on a Stone Garrett sacrifice fly following a defensive miscue between Gavin Lux and Trea Turner. To Julio Urías’ credit, he limited the damage to just one run despite the Diamondbacks loading the bases.

Zac Gallen was through three perfect innings, but Will Smith broke that up with a triple to left field with two outs in the fourth, which was followed by Max Muncy tying the game with an RBI double.

The score remained 1-1 until the top of the ninth inning as both Gallen and Urías, along with the Dodgers’ bullpen, were brilliant throughout the night.

Following Muncy’s double, Gallen retired the final 13 batters faced to get through eight innings while setting a career high with 13 strikeouts, 10 of which came against the bottom of the Dodgers lineup.

Urías only pitched 5.1 innings, but Evan Phillips, Alex Vesia and Brusdar Graterol each worked a scoreless appearance.

The Diamondbacks took the lead again when Christian Walker blasted a solo home run against Craig Kimbrel, and Arizona handed the ball to Reyes Moronta for the save opportunity.

Cody Bellinger greeted his former teammate with a double to open the bottom of the ninth inning and with one out, Freddie Freeman was intentionally walked. Smith then singled to load the bases and Muncy hit an infield single to tie the game.

Mookie Betts pinch-hit for Joey Gallo, and with a 3-2 count he singled to left field to drive in Freeman and give the Dodgers a walk-off win.

Dodgers pick up Daniel Hudson’s 2023 club option

Daniel Hudson signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers during the offseason and became a key arm in the bullpen before tearing his ACL in Late June.

Hudson is nearing the end of his career at 35 years old, but he hoped the injury would not be the last memory of his time in the league. He moved one step closer to completing that goal on Thursday as the Dodgers reportedly picked up his club option for the 2023 season.
