Dodgers Highlights: Matt Kemp Hits Clutch Home Run, Collects 4 RBI Against Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers were able to avoid being swept by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon, coming back to earn a 6-4 victory at Dodger Stadium.

A big reason for the win was the play of Matt Kemp, who broke out of his recent slump in a big way by going 3-for-4 with four RBI. He drove in the Dodgers’ first run of the game on a groundout in the first inning.

Kemp then brought in the their second run as well, doubling home Max Muncy in the third inning. Kemp’s day was just getting started, as he came up with two runners on and the Dodgers trailing 4-3 in the fifth inning.

He came up with his second hit of the day, singling past a diving Trevor Story to score Muncy once again.

The big blow came in the bottom of the eighth, though, when Kemp led off the inning against Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino with the game tied at four. That tie did not last long as Kemp launched his 14th home run of the season to straightaway center field, giving the Dodgers the lead for good.

One other exciting play in the game came in the eighth inning after Kemp’s home run, courtesy of the Wild Horse, Yasiel Puig. With one out in the inning and Puig on second, Joc Pederson hit an infield single that Rockies second baseman D.J. LeMahieu was able to dive for and stop.

Puig noticed that LeMahieu wasn’t paying attention, and he rounded third base and took off for home, sliding in safely just ahead of the throw to steal a run. A two-run lead was more than enough for Kenley Jansen, who tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to close the game out.
