Dodgers Highlights: Matt Kemp Goes 5-for-5 With Home Run In 17-1 Victory Over Pirates

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a night to remember at Dodger Stadium on Monday, tallying 21 hits and 17 runs en route to a blowout victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Matt Kemp played a big part in the victory, going 5-for-5 with a home run, while driving in four runs. The homer was a three-run shot in the sixth inning to cap off the Dodgers’ special night.

After going through a bit of a slump in recent weeks, Kemp has recorded a hit in each of his last eight at-bats dating back to Sunday’s win over the Colorado Rockies. He has driven in a combined eight runs in those two games.

Kemp was the last to homer in the win, but before him, three different Dodgers, all left-handed batters, left the yard.

The first was Cody Bellinger, who took Pirates starter Nick Kingham deep to straightaway center field in the third inning for his 17th home run of the season. That tied Max Muncy for the team lead, although that did not last long.

The other two long balls on the night were off the bats of Joc Pederson and Muncy. The duo picked up right where they left off in the month of June by hitting back-to-back homers to lead off the fourth inning.

Muncy’s was a no-doubt shot to right field that went more than halfway up the pavilion, good for his team-leading 18th of the season.

With the game out of reach, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts looked to conserve his bullpen, so he went to left-hander Caleb Ferguson in relief of Alex Wood, who had yet another strong outing.

On his 22nd birthday, Ferguson earned a three-inning save, giving up just three hits and no runs. The save was Ferguson’s first of his career.
