The Los Angeles Dodgers concluded their homestand by lowering the magic number clinch the National League West to six thanks to a 7-3 win against the San Francisco Giants.

Both Clayton Kershaw and Alex Cobb held the opposing offenses scoreless through four innings, but the Dodgers had multiple opportunities to score. It was the Giants who took a 2-0 lead when David Villar hit a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning.

The Dodgers answered back in the bottom half of the inning when Freddie Freeman hit a leadoff single and Max Muncy reached on a bunt to put two runners on for Justin Turner.

The 37-year-old previously extended his hitting streak to 16-games, which tied a career high, and he continued his hot hitting by unloading a three-run home run to put the Dodgers ahead.

The Giants ended up tying the game on a solo homer from Villar, who registered his first career multi-home run game. It was additionally the third long ball of the series from the 25-year-old who entered the series with one in his career.

In the eighth, Austin Barnes opened the inning with a single before Trea Turner drove him in with a double to give the Dodgers the lead again.

Following Turner’s double, Freeman walked to put two on for Muncy, who blasted a third home run in two days, giving the Dodgers a decided 7-3 lead.

Kershaw impressed by Dodgers comeback win

Come-from-behind wins have been a staple of the Dodgers this season and they again completed the task on Wednesday despite the nearly 100-degree weather. “It’s impressive,” Kershaw said.

“I think our guys, especially offensively right now, are doing a great job at situational hitting and getting big hits when we need it. They’re doing a lot. A lot of those guys have been running out there six months straight, so it’s impressive what those guys are doing. I don’t see any reason why that won’t continue for us.”
