The Los Angeles Dodgers offense came alive for a second time in their weekend series against the Colorado Rockies, scoring 11 runs in Friday’s victory and 12 more in Saturday’s blowout win.
Most of the damage came in the seventh inning, as the score was tied at four before the Dodgers exploded for eight runs against the Rockies bullpen. Joc Pederson had a career day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored, a double, two home runs and two RBI.
Pederson hadn’t hit a home run since April 21, which was his only on the season prior to Saturday. Matt Kemp also had a big day at the plate, which has been the case seemingly all year. Kemp went 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his ninth of the season.
Kemp raised his batting average to .347, which leads the National League. He also leads the team with nine home runs and 33 RBI.
In addition to his strong showing at the plate, Kemp also had an impressive day in the field. In the bottom of the first inning he made a perfect throw to nail Charlie Blackmon at home for an inning-ending double play that kept the Rockies off the scoreboard.
Chris Taylor continues to be a steady presence since overcoming a slow start. He reached base four times in five plate appearances and hit his sixth triple of the season, which is tied for the Major League lead.
Walker Buehler got the start on the mound for the Dodgers and did a nice job of staying poised and bouncing back after a rough second inning in which he gave up four runs.
The Dodgers bullpen has been depleted as of late, so Buehler being able to get through five innings was crucial.
