Dodgers Highlights: James Outman’s Home Run Against Nationals

The Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up a road trip that felt much longer than six games by defeating the Washington Nationals, 7-3, in a rubber match that featured more rain.

Each of the three games at Nationals Park included a rain delay, with Saturday’s contest the only to not be interrupted. Though in that instance, first pitch was pushed back 4 hours and 10 minutes because of inclement weather in the area.

On Sunday, the Dodgers lineup quickly went to work on taking a lead, thanks to Jason Heyward’s two-run single with two outs in the first inning.

James Outman added onto that with a leadoff home run in the second inning, and the Dodgers scored again when David Peralta was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Unfortunately for Peralta, that ended his afternoon as he was removed early due to a left elbow contusion.

After the Dodgers had their 4-0 lead cut in half, Miguel Rojas helped them answer back with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Rojas went 4-for-5 in the win, setting a season high in hits and tying his career-best mark.

A 58-minute rain delay ensued and when play resumed with the bases loaded for the Dodgers, Austin Barnes hit a sacrifice fly. Kiké Hernández brought in the Dodgers’ seventh run of the game on a double in the sixth inning.

Ryan Yarbrough made his first start for the Dodgers and allowed two runs over four innings. Wander Suero allowed a run to his former teammates over 1.1 innings, but Alex Vesia, Brusdar Graterol, Caleb Ferguson and Victor González followed with scoreless work to wrap up the win.
