Emmet Sheehan set a career high with 10 strikeouts and the bottom of the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup did plenty of heavy lifting in an 8-2 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Outman got the Dodgers going with a solo home run in the third inning and his bunt single helped spark them in the fifth. David Peralta followed that with an RBI double that put L.A. up 2-1.

The Dodgers ran their string of hits in a row to four with singles by Miguel Rojas and Mookie Betts, which extended their lead to 4-1.

Freddie Freeman broke the game open in the eighth inning with a three-run homer. That gave Freeman 101 RBI on the season, and he became the third Dodgers player to reach triple digits in 2023. Mookie Betts (106 RBI) and Max Muncy (104) also are part of that group, while J.D. Martinez (98) is on the verge of joining them.

The run support was more than enough for Sheehan and the Dodgers bullpen. Sheehan allowed just two solo homers over six innings and became the third rookie Dodgers pitcher to set a new career high in strikeouts during the series.

Sheehan was followed by Brusdar Graterol, Ryan Brasier and Alex Vesia combining to throw four scoreless innings.

Dodgers start playoffs as No. 2 seed

The Atlanta Braves coming away with a walk-off win against the Chicago Cubs guaranteed they would begin the postseason with the best record in the National League.

Thus, that locked the Dodgers into the No. 2 seed in the NL postseason bracket. They already had clinched home-field advantage for the NL Division Series, which begins at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, October 7.
