Mookie Betts delivered his first career walk-off hit and it propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to a sweep of the Colorado Rockies behind a 3-2 win. The Dodgers improved to 6-1 on their homestand and have a six-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the National League West standings.

Although L.A. finished Wednesday night with nine hits, they struggled to put baserunners on early and fell into a 1-0 deficit. Mitch White had a no-hitter until allowing a one-out single to Brendan Rodgers that followed a walk.

Cody Bellinger’s throw to third base went out of play, bringing in an unearned run. Bellinger later scored the tying run from third base on a wild pitch despite Betts initially gesturing to stay put at third base.

“I just didn’t know if the ball was going to roll far enough away,” Betts explained. “I was just erring on the side of being cautious, but I was wrong. Belli made the right play.”

Betts left the go-ahead run at third base in the seventh inning, but later atoned for it. After singles by Bellinger and Gavin Lux put runners at the corners with nobody out in the ninth, Will Smith drew a walk to load the bases.

Betts then hit a chopper that went over Rockies relief pitcher Daniel Bard but left José Iglesias without a play and the Dodgers had a 3-2 win. It marked just their second walk-off win of the season.

“It didn’t look pretty,” Betts said. “But the job got done.”

What’s next for Dodgers

Having completed a stretch of seven games against an NL West opponent, the Dodgers now welcome the Chicago Cubs to Dodger Stadium to close out their homestand. L.A. swept a three-game series at Wrigley Field in May.
