The Los Angeles Dodgers capped off a successful homestand with a 3-1 win to complete a series sweep of the San Francisco Giants. L.A. has won five in a row and are within 1.5 games of San Francisco for first place in the National League West.
Giants starter Kevin Gausman ran into early trouble as he walked Max Muncy, hit Justin Turner and put on Cody Bellinger to load the bases with one out in the first inning. Gausman nearly wiggled out of the jam by relying on his patented splitter that Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said is among the game’s most elite pitches.
Gausman was ahead in the count to Chris Taylor, but the hopeful National League All-Star went inside-out for a two-run double that gave the Dodgers a lead they never relinquished.
Muncy then celebrated his bobblehead night at Dodger Stadium in grand fashion by hitting a solo home run in the third inning. Muncy went 1-for-2 with two walks in the win.

Walker Buehler didn’t overpower the Giants but he nonetheless turned in a strong start. San Francisco only mustered one run and three hits and Buehler finished the night with seven strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
Buehler kept his streak alive of pitching at least six innings in all 16 starts this season. He nearly got through seven scoreless, but a Gavin Lux error kept the inning alive and Steven Duggar followed with an RBI double to knock Buehler out of the game at 113 pitches.
Joe Kelly got the final out in the seventh inning and retired the side in order in the eighth. Kenley Jansen hit the leadoff batter and walked Buster Posey before working out of the jam to convert his second consecutive save.
Dodgers beginning road trip
After going 5-1 on their homestand, the Dodgers begin an eight-game road trip on Thursday with series against the Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins.
