Dodgers Highlights: Austin Barnes Leads Collective Effort Against Brewers; Hanser Alberto Upset With Allowing Home Run

The Los Angeles Dodgers finished their homestand with another thumping of the Milwaukee Brewers, cruising to a 12-6 win despite falling behind in the first inning. The Dodgers have scored at least 10 runs in 15 games this season, which leads the National League.

Coming off a start in which he allowed three home runs, Andrew Heaney was quickly tagged for a long ball as Willy Adames took him deep. That came after Christian Yelich led off the game with a fly ball that was caught on the warning track in left-center field.

The Dodgers responded with four runs in the bottom of the first, thanks to RBI singles by Freddie Freeman and Justin Turner, and Cody Bellinger driving in a pair on a two-out double.

Austin Barnes beat out a double play to bring home a run in the third inning, and the Dodgers broke the game open in the fourth. Max Muncy contributed a sacrifice fly, Joey Gallo hit a two-run double and Barnes added an RBI single.

Muncy collected his second sacrifice fly of the game in the fifth inning and Barnes added a two-run homer in the sixth. Barnes finished with a game-high four RBI.

Heaney wound up allowing just two runs over six innings, pitching one more frame than Dodgers manager Dave Roberts set as a goal.

Playing yet another lopsided affair, Hanser Alberto pitch the ninth inning for a second consecutive night. He failed to get through a scoreless appearance and afterward playfully blamed Barnes.

“Ask why he called a breaking ball,” Alberto shouted as Barnes began a postgame interview in the Dodgers clubhouse.

Dodgers closing in on 2022 NL West title

With their win on Wednesday, the Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the NL West was trimmed to 19. They are an MLB-best 45-16 at home and hold a season-high 19.5-game lead in the division standings.
