The Los Angeles Dodgers got back in the win column on Tuesday night, earning a convincing 11-4 victory over the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium.
The night didn’t get off to a good start as Rich Hill gave up home runs to Jay Bruce and Michael Conforto, putting the Dodgers in an early 4-0 deficit. However, they wound up scoring 11 straight unanswered runs to end the night on a high note.
Austin Barnes, who has struggled at the plate this season, got the offense going by hitting a two-run home run off Mets starter Jason Vargas in the third inning. The long ball was just Barnes’ second of the season.
David Freese then hit his first home run with the Dodgers, a towering drive to left field that cut their deficit to 4-3 in the fourth. Freese had a solid night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
The Dodgers took the lead in that fourth inning thanks to some poor defense by the Mets, allowing two more runs to score, both on balls that didn’t leave the infield.
After a few innings without scoring, the Dodgers hung a six-spot in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Justin Turner and Manny Machado combined for back-to-back doubles to begin the inning, and Machado later scored all the way from second base on a wild pitch.
Freese then contributed an RBI double, while Kiké Hernandez and Yasmani Grandal drove in runs with singles to complete the offensive outburst.
