Dodgers Highlights: Amed Rosario, Freddie Freeman & Mookie Betts Home Runs Against Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers quickly shook off disappointment from their bullpen imploding by getting to Rich Hill early en route to an 8-2 win over the San Diego Padres. That has the Dodgers in position to win the wraparound series that concludes Monday afternoon.

Hill’s Padres debut got off to a bumpy start as he hit Freddie Freeman with a pitch and two batters later gave up a home run to Amed Rosario. The homer was Rosario’s second since being traded to the Dodgers.

The Dodgers extended their lead in the second inning Austin Barnes dropped down a suicide squeeze bunt to score Kiké Hernández. Home plate umpire Gabe Morales called Hernández out, which prompted the Dodgers to challenge in order to get it overturned.

MLB’s replay center determined Gary Sánchez blocked home plate before receiving the throw from Ji Man Choi.

Momentum remained on the Dodgers’ side as Freddie Freeman broke the game open with a three-run home run.

The Dodgers went quiet from there until Mookie Betts hit solo home run with two outs in the eighth inning to give him 30 on the season. Betts is closing in on the career-high 35 homers he hit last year.

Hernández added an RBI double in the ninth.

Lance Lynn turned in another strong performance in his second start with the Dodgers by going six innings with just one run allowed. Fittingly, that did come on a home run as Sánchez’s blast in the third inning reached the top of the Western Metal Supply building in left field of Petco Park.

Ryan Brasier gave up a leadoff home run to Jake Cronenworth in the seventh inning, but the Dodgers bullpen otherwise finished the game without issue one night after imploding.

Included in that was Yency Almonte completing a scoreless ninth as he recovered from a shaky appearance.
