Dodgers Highlights: AJ Pollock Homers Twice In Sweep Of Angels

The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the L.A. Angels on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Freeway Series, which also happened to be the finale of the regular season for both clubs. The Angels clearly looked like a team that had nothing to play for as the Dodgers cruised to a 5-0 victory, completing the three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium.

AJ Pollock got the offense started early, leading off the bottom of the first with a home run to left field. Pollock had a great regular season for L.A. after a rough ending to 2019, establishing himself as an everyday player going into the postseason.

Pollock’s day wasn’t done after the first home run as he also singled, walked and went deep again, a two-run shot in the seventh inning. Pollock finished the season with 16 home runs to tie Mookie Betts for the team lead, batting .276/.314/.566 overall.

Pollock additionally set a career high with 10 homers during the month of September. It bested the nine he slugged in March and April to start the 2018 season.

While Pollock drove in three of the five runs, the other two came on a rally in the third inning. Austin Barnes, Joc Pederson and Pollock all walked to load up the bases and the runs scored on a double play by Corey Seager and an error on a ground ball by Justin Turner.

May dominates out of bullpen

With Dustin May’s role in the postseason still unknown, the Dodgers decided to bring him out of the bullpen Sunday to get more experience as a reliever.

He entered the game in the second inning after a scoreless first from Victor Gonzalez, and as has been the case all season, May was dominant.

The right-hander pitched four shutout innings of relief for L.A., allowing just two hits with five strikeouts against two walks. May earned the win to finish the year at 3-1 with an impressive 2.57 ERA.

Now that the regular season is over for the Dodgers, they will get ready to face the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game Wild Card Series that begins on Wednesday.
