While the Los Angeles Dodgers winning the 2020 World Series has many looking forward to an expected ring ceremony prior to their home opener at Dodger Stadium on April 9, there also has been anticipation over the club participating in MLB’s gold program.
It has become commonplace for the reigning World Series champion to don a gold-trimmed cap and jersey for Opening Day or home opener, and in some cases multiple games. MLB has yet to unveil a Dodgers gold design, but indications are they will participate.
The Dodgers gold hat design was shared by The Locker Room of Downey, as the wait for the first look at the jersey continues. It’s unclear when the Dodgers may wear the gold-trimmed designs.
L.A. faces the Colorado Rockies on Opening Day for the start of a four-game series at Coors Field, then remain on the road for a three-game set with the Oakland Athletics.
The Dodgers don’t play at Dodger Stadium until facing the Washington Nationals on Thursday, April 9, for their eighth game of the season. With the team likely holding a ring ceremony that afternoon, it stands to reason the Dodgers will wear the gold series jersey and cap at that point.
The New York Yankees were the last team to not wear a hat or jersey with the gold design when they opened the 2010 season as defending champions.
Turner excited for Dodgers ring ceremony
Although the Dodgers have yet to share details, Justin Turner is looking forward to the team holding a pregame ceremony when they will receive World Series rings.
“We finally accomplished what we were trying to accomplish over my last seven years,” Turner said. “We fell short a couple times, obviously had some tough endings to some seasons. Seeing the banner go up and getting that ring is going to be a good feeling.
“That’s what every kid dreams of: winning a World Series. We were able to accomplish that last year and obviously the goal is to win a few more.”
