Dodgers Free Agent Jack Flaherty: ‘I Never Want To Leave’

The Los Angeles Dodgers were among several teams looking to acquire starting pitching help at the 2024 trade deadline, which was addressed by acquiring Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for a return of prospects.

Flaherty nearly was sent to the New York Yankees, but they reportedly backed out of a tentative trade agreement because of concerns over his back injury. The end result was the Dodgers acquiring the best starter who was moved at the deadline, and Flaherty getting to enjoy a homecoming for the second half of the season.

The year ended with Flaherty becoming a World Series champion but also among the group of Dodgers free agents ahead of the 2025 season.

“This is unbelievable. Seeing Freddie pictures everywhere, Freddie (Freeman) is the freaking man. I love that dude. I would give him a kiss right now. The city is showing out. It’s unbelievable,” Flaherty said of the support from Dodgers fans along the parade route in downtown Los Angeles.

“This is unbelievable. I never want to leave. I never want to leave. I just never want to leave.”

Flaherty went 6-2 with a 3.58 ERA, 4.16 FIP and 1.28 WHIP in 10 starts for the Dodgers during the regular season.

He was inconsistent during the playoffs but turned in impressive performances in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series and again to begin the World Series against the New York Yankees.

Unfortunately for Flaherty on a personal level, his final outing of the year was a clunker that required the Dodgers to make World Series history by overcoming the largest deficit in a clinching game.

Will Dodgers re-sign Jack Flaherty?

On the surface the Dodgers don’t necessarily appear to facing a pitching need for the 2025 season. However, there are multiple questions in their projected starting rotation, and that could lead to re-signing Flaherty.
