For as much as the Los Angeles Dodgers are lauded for carrying a versatile and deep roster at the Major League level, the organization has accomplished as much throughout their farm system as well.

Some of their contributors this past season and in recent years became Minor League free agents, including relief pitcher Jaime Schultz. The right-hander made his Dodgers debut in 2019 but no longer is with the organization as he was signed by the Oakland Athletics to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Spring Training.

Meanwhile, as the hot stove season still has yet to heat up, the Dodgers appear to have reunited with veteran backup catcher Rocky Gale. According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, Gale re-signed with the Dodgers on a Minor League contract:

The Dodgers removed Gale from their 40-man roster this past July and outrighted him to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Gale was then traded to the Tampa Bay Rays one week later. He did not appear at the Major League level with the Rays, though played in five games for the Dodgers.

During his time in the Dodgers organization this year, Gale was with Double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City. He batted .250/.303/.370 with four doubles, one triple and two home runs and 14 RBI over 30 games with the Dodgers’ top affiliate.

He was improved in 17 games with Triple-A Durham, hitting .323/.344/.355 with two doubles and six RBI.

Gale first joined the Dodgers organization in February 2018 when he was signed to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invite to Spring Training. He made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres in 2015 and also spent part of the 2017 season up with the club.

The 31-year-old presumably will return to Oklahoma City as a backup to Keibert Ruiz, and an option if the Dodgers are in need of a third catcher or a fill in due to injury.
