Freddie Freeman Has ‘Aura’ In Game-Winning Situations

Freddie Freeman provided the only source of offense in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night with the eighth walk-off home run of his career when including the regular season and playoffs.

It continued what has been a torrid stretch for Freeman, who is now batting .339/.417/.712 with four doubles, six home runs and 15 RBI in 72 plate appearances over his last 16 games.

“I wish I had an exact answer,” Freeman said when asked what has led to his hot streak. “Sometimes you just go through stretches where you just feel good, and obviously I’ve been feeling good lately.

“I was tweaking a lot of things early on, just trying to find a consistent feel for things. Sometimes it’s just get a couple hits to get your confidence going. Nothing really crazy, it’s the same routine.”

Freeman downplayed the notion that his confidence is even higher now in walk-off situations and said he always tries to game-plan against whoever he faces on the mound.

“It’s always been pretty high,” Freeman said with a laugh. “It doesn’t change. When you face Kirby, you’ve got to look up. Fastball-splitters, so if you look down you’re probably going to chase the splitter. I had a nice game plan going into it, looking up, and I hit a really good pitch.”

Freeman is now tied with Andre Dawson and Albert Pujols with 20 walk-off hits (including postseason) since RBI became official in 1920. That ranks sixth in MLB history behind Frank Robinson (26), David Ortiz (23), Dusty Baker (21), Tony Perez (21) and Roberto Clemente (21).

“Freddie just has that aura,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “There’s not too many guys in baseball that you’d want up in a game-winning situation and Freddie does it once again. It’s pretty remarkable how he can want to be that guy and come through as many times as he does.”

Of Freeman’s eight career walk-off home runs, three have come with the Dodgers. His game-winning blast in the Freeway Series opener was first during the regular season, as the first two came in the 2024 and 2025 World Series.

For the Dodgers, it marked their third walk-off win of the 2026 season. Freeman’s homer also extended their streak of not yet playing an extra-innings game this year.
