Freddie Freeman Injury: CT Scan Needed For Jammed Middle Finger

Freddie Freeman was held out of the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup for their series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals after jamming his right middle finger in Saturday’s matchup at Busch Stadium.

Freeman sustained the injured when fielding a grounder in the sixth inning. He was removed from the game in the bottom of the eighth but X-rays were negative.

The Dodgers were hopeful that Freeman’s finger would feel better on Sunday, but it has gotten worse and he will now undergo a CT scan once the team returns from their road trip, via Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times:

Freeman’s injury is a disappointing development as he recently returned to the team after spending time on the family emergency list while his son, Maximus, was hospitalized with Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Freeman missed eight games before returning to the Dodgers lineup on Aug. 5. Prior to that, he had started every game this season until leaving the team to be with his family.

With Freeman unavailable to play on Sunday, Kiké Hernández started in his place at first base. Gavin Lux also moved up to the No. 3 spot, a part of the Dodgers lineup he has enjoyed hitting in.

Freddie Freeman celebrated son’s recovery

Before his injury, Freeman used customized cleats and bats in recognition of the three sons he shares with wife Chelsea Freeman as part of Players Weekend.

Freeman had one bat with each of his sons’ names on them (Charlie, Brandon and Maximus) and the design included “#MaxStrong” engraved on all three as well.

Freeman’s custom equipment further highlighted Max’s journey by being set to a “Spider-Man” theme color.
