Freddie Freeman got off to a blistering start in 2025 and was on track to have the best season of not only his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but his career, before going into an extended slump.
It’s left Freeman plenty frustrated and searching for a solution, even resorting to taking on-field batting practice multiple times during the stretch. His commitment to endless work has started to pay dividends, which included Freeman hitting a walk-off RBI single on Wednesday.
He followed that with an RBI double in his first at-bat of the series finale against the Chicago White Sox. Freeman hit a second RBI double in the game and nearly had a home run if not for Mike Tauchman making a leaping catch at the wall to rob him.
“Obviously it’s been trending a lot better,” Freeman said of his swing. “Even that first game in Kansas City, I didn’t get any hits but I felt a little bit better in that game. Then obviously got a few hits in Kansas City that last game I played.
“So the last few games, swing is definitely trending in the right direction.”
Freeman’s best month of the season so far was in May, when he batted .410/.462/.638 with 10 doubles, four home runs and 21 RBI over 27 games. He’s not so much looking to replicate the same feeling from that point, but rather once again relying on an adjustment that proved key in the World Series last year.
“The cue that I’ve been using is the World Series cue. The kind of step-out cue that I’ve been doing. This is about the fourth time I’ve tried this, so fourth time was the charm,” Freeman noted.
“I just feel a little bit better. The backside double today was obviously very nice to see. And even the 3-2 curveball that I had the home run robbed, that’s usually been fouled the last couple months. So obviously better swings.”
Freddie Freeman’s historic World Series
Freeman looking to replicate a feeling from last October certainly stands to reason as he put together a record-setting performance against the New York Yankees en route to earning World Series MVP honors.
Freeman broke George Springer’s MLB record by hitting a home run in six consecutive World Series games. Freeman’s streak began in Game 5 of the 2021 World Series as a member of the Atlanta Braves.
Freeman joined Johnny Podres (1955), Larry Sherry (1959), Sandy Koufax (1963 and 1965), Ron Cey and Pedro Guerrero (1981), Orel Hershiser (1988) and Corey Seager (2020) as Dodgers World Series MVP winners.
