Despite recent graduations and routinely picking at the bottom of the MLB Draft due to their success, the Los Angeles Dodgers farm systems remains one of the deepest in all of baseball.

The organization’s Minor League pipeline placed No. 1 in The Athletic’s Keith Law’s rankings for the 2023 season. Rounding out the top 10 are the Cleveland Guardians (No. 2), Baltimore Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks, Tampa Bay Rays, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs.

Of those teams, only the Dodgers, Guardians, Rays and Cardinals made the postseason last year. Law cited L.A.’s depth up the middle and their slew of hard-throwing pitchers, combined with their international and domestic scouting, to continuously keep them ranked so high.

The Dodgers had eight players ranked in Law’s top 100 prospects for the 2023 season, which is the most of any team to appear on The Athletic list.

The group is headlined by Diego Cartaya at No. 6 overall, and includes Miguel Vargas, Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone, Dalton Rushing, Andy Pages, Michael Busch and James Outman.

Cartaya previously was ranked the No. 2 catching prospect by MLB Pipeline, 14th by MLB.com, No. 18 overall by Baseball America and 19th by Baseball Prospectus.

Vargas, the No. 23 ranked prospect in all of baseball, rose 39 spots from Law’s 2022 rankings. He is highly regarded by other publications as well, ranking 30th by Baseball America, No. 37 by MLB.com and 39th by Baseball Prospectus.

Law specifically highlighted Rushing, the No. 62 ranked prospect, as being a fast riser after being selected in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft.

Brandon Gomes: Dodgers farm system ‘as talented of a group as I’ve seen

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes recently praised the Dodgers’ farm system and said it’s as good of a group as he’s seen.

The talent and depth at the Minor League levels is part of the reason why the club was so comfortable letting several longtime contributors depart in free agency this offseason.
