The Los Angeles Dodgers looked to get back in the win column of Sunday afternoon in the series finale against the San Diego Padres after dropping Saturday’s game.
That is exactly what they were able to do as behind a gem from rookie Walker Buehler they earned a 6-1 victory over the Padres to win the series.
Buehler got off to a good start for the Dodgers, giving up just a double that went off Matt Kemp’s glove in an 11-pitch first inning. He then struck out the side in the second.
The Dodgers offense got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, and of course, it started with Buehler, who singled to begin the inning. That was followed by a double by Chris Taylor and then and RBI-single by Kiké Hernandez to score Buehler. Taylor later scored on a double play ball by Justin Turner, putting the Dodgers ahead 2-0.
The only blemish on the day for Buehler came in the top of the fifth inning when he gave up a leadoff double to Freddy Galvis, who quickly advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a sacrifice fly to cut the Dodgers lead to 2-1.
Buehler was able to get through seven innings for the second straight outing, giving up just four hits and one run while striking out eight without allowing a walk.
Max Muncy and Cody Bellinger provided some insurance in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run home run each, and Josh Fields closed things down to complete the 6-1 victory.
