The start of the 2025 season was a struggle for Andy Pages after he was handed the Los Angeles Dodgers starting center field job.
Pages batted just .167/.286/.283 in his first 70 plate appearances while making numerous mistakes on defense and running the bases.
But over the past week, Pages seems to be turning a corner, at least at the plate. Since April 19, Pages has been the Dodgers’ best hitter, batting .429/.429/1.000 with two home runs and a 296 wRC+.
It’s just a sample size of 14 plate appearances, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has been encouraged by the progress Pages has made offensively.
“I like his swing,” Roberts said. “Certainly, the results have been good the last handful of games, seven games, something like that. The swing has gotten a lot shorter.
“I think he’s just really competing, I think the confidence is certainly growing. It’s good to see. He’s starting to get a lot more confident and be more who he is. I think earlier in the season, he was really mechanical, indecisive on swing decisions.
“I think there’s a lot more confidence and conviction in his at-bats now.”
With the hot stretch, Pages has raised his overall batting line to .216/.310/.419, good for a 108 wRC+ on the season. He’s totaled four home runs, seven RBI and nine runs scored across his 84 plate appearances.
Pages still needs to continue improving, specifically cutting out the mental mistakes on the bases and defensively, but he has shown flashes with the glove, which includes robbing two home runs.
However, the 24-year old has always been known for his bat, so if he can continue to produce at the plate, it can help cover up some of his lesser traits.
The sample is small and Pages still has a lot to prove, but it’s an encouraging step in the right direction.
Andy Pages learning from Teoscar Hernández
As Pages looks to cement himself as a young player, he’s appreciated receiving guidance and advice from Teoscar Hernández.
Pages has been thankful for all the advice given to him by Hernández, who has also kept a close eye on his teammate to help correct the mistakes.
