The Los Angeles Dodgers are back in the World Series for a third time in the past six seasons and are looking to become baseball’s first repeat champion in 25 years.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays are playing in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1992-1993, when they won back-to-back titles themselves.
Although the Blue Jays finished with a better record than the Dodgers, L.A. is widely considered the favorite to win this year’s World Series.
The Dodgers are looking to add onto their remarkable run that includes 13 consecutive postseason appearances, 12 National League West titles, five pennants and two World Series championships.
That kind of success, coupled with the team’s resources that allow them to acquire virtually any player they want, could have a lot of fans cheering for the Blue Jays in the World Series.
However, manager Dave Roberts believes most baseball fans enjoy watching and supporting the Dodgers.
“I think they’re happy to see us,” Roberts said. “People love for fresh blood until you potentially see TV ratings. But I think they like seeing the Dodgers, whether they like rooting against us or for us.
“We’ve got a lot of good players. I think we do things the right way as far as how we play the game. So I think they like seeing us, even here in Milwaukee.”
There’s no question that the Dodgers have one of the best fanbases in sports. They routinely sell out their games and this year reached 4 million in total attendance at Dodger Stadium for the first time in franchise history.
The Blue Jays also have a strong fanbase and seemingly have an entire country backing them up, so it will be interesting to see which team gets the most support.
Blake Snell not sure if fans will root Dodgers
Blake Snell isn’t sure where the Dodgers stand among baseball fans in the World Series but thinks their matchup with the Blue Jays will be a good one regardless.
“I don’t know. I think they would root for us. That’s a wide question. I don’t know,” Snell said. “We just won one — the Dodgers did, not me. But, yeah, I don’t know.
“I know, being from Seattle, how important a World Series is there and the fans, how excited they are and how crazy the city was in Seattle after they beat Detroit. So I was well aware of that.
“But I haven’t looked into that too much, but I’m sure whoever wins the World Series, they’ll be happy.”
