The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Clayton Kershaw plans to retire after the 2025 season. Kershaw is scheduled to make his final start of the regular season on Friday when the Dodgers face the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium.

“On behalf of the Dodgers, I congratulate Clayton on a fabulous career and thank him for the many moments he gave to Dodger fans and baseball fans everywhere, as well as for all of his profound charitable endeavors,” Dodgers owner Mark Walter said in a statement.

“His is a truly legendary career, one that we know will lead to his induction in the Baseball Hall of Fame.”

The Dodgers drafted Kershaw in the first round of the 2006 MLB Draft. Kershaw made his MLB debut with the Dodgers on May 25, 2008.

Among other accolades throughout his decorated career, Kershaw has won two World Series, three Cy Young Awards and one National League MVP .

Ealiert his season Kershaw became the 20th pitcher and fourth left-hander in MLB history to reach 3,000 career strikeouts. His 2.54 career ERA is the lowest of any pitcher in the Live Ball era (since 1920).

The day after his final start of the regular season, the Dodgers are holding Clayton Kershaw bobblehead night. The theme of the bobblehead celebrates Kershaw reaching 3,000 strikeouts.

This season was Kershaw’s 18th with the Dodgers, which set a franchise record. At various points over recent years he considered signing with the Texas Rangers, but has since continued to express how significant spending his entire career with the Dodgers is.

Clayton Kershaw retirement press conference

Kershaw is scheduled to discuss his retirement during a press conference at Dodger Stadium on Thursday afternoon. It’s scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. PT and will be televised live on SportsNet LA.
