The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Mike Siani and designated Andy Ibáñez for assignment, making another transaction involving these players on the 40-man roster.
Siani began the offseason with the St. Louis Cardinals before he was claimed by the Atlanta Braves on Nov. 6, 2025. The Dodgers then claimed Siani from the Braves on Dec. 12.
The Dodgers designated Siani for assignment to make room on their 40-man roster for Kyle Tucker, and he ended up being claimed by the New York Yankees. The Yankees then designated Siani for assignment last Wednesday, and he now returns to L.A.
Over his MLB career, the left-handed hitter has played in 160 games while hitting .221/.277/.270 with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs, 48 runs scored, 20 RBI and 21 stolen bases. In 2025, Siani hit .235/.316/.235 in his limited playing time.
While with the Memphis Redbirds this past season, Siani hit just .209/.307/.329 with 12 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 41 RBI over 101 games. He added 28 stolen bases and was caught stealing just five times.
Despite his struggles with the bat, Siani is an elite defensive center fielder with plus speed. In 2024, his 16 outs above average ranked in the 99th percentile of players.
Dodgers designate Andy Ibáñez for assignment
The Dodgers signed Ibáñez on Jan. 9 this offseason to a one-year contract worth $1.2 million. Ryan Fitzgerald was designated for assignment as the corresponding move, but stayed in the organization.
Ibáñez became a free agent this offseason as a result of getting non-tendered by the Detroit Tigers. He had spent the last three seasons with the Tigers, hitting a combined .251/.304/.392 with 20 home runs, 94 RBI and a 93 wRC+ in 304 games.
Ibáñez’s MLB career also includes spending parts of two seasons with the Texas Rangers in 2021 and 2022.
While appearing in 420 games thus far, Ibáñez has hit .254/.305/.389 with 28 home runs, 140 runs, 128 RBI and a 92 wRC+. The bulk of his success came in 2021 and 2023, but otherwise Ibáñez’s offensive contributions have largely been below league average.
Ibáñez was out of Minor League options, so the Dodgers would have needed to carry him on their 26-man roster or DFA him. They are likely hoping he clears waivers and sticks in the organization.
Ibáñez was also included on the preliminary roster for Team Cuba in the World Baseball Classic but decided against playing to focus on getting ready for the 2026 season.
