The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Bobby Wahl off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers, marking the second pitcher they have added in such a manner this season. L.A. previously claimed Phil Bickford from Milwaukee, and the right-hander has emerged as a valuable contributor.

Wahl was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics out of the University of Mississippi. He made his debut with the A’s in 2017 and has also pitched for the New York Mets in addition to the Brewers.

The Brewers designated Wahl for assignment on Thursday as a corresponding move on their 40-man roster to select Aaron Ashby for his MLB debut.

The 29-year-old hasn’t pitched in the Majors this season, and only made three appearances for the Brewers last season. Overall, the right-hander is 0-2 with a 7.63 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in 17 games across stints with the Athletics, Mets and Brewers.

This season, Wahl has spent time with Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville, allowing a combined 11 runs over 10.1 innings and collecting 11 strikeouts. He is 9-8 with a 3.80 ERA and 40-for-45 in save opportunities in 172 career Minor League games.

Wahl has one option year remaining this season and presumably will begin his stint with the Dodgers organization by joining Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Dodgers transfer Seager

The Dodgers transferred Corey Seager to the 60-day injured list in order to add Wahl to their 40-man roster. Seager’s recovery from a right hand fracture has stalled a bit and he now is not eligible to be activated until July 15.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had recently expressed hope Seager would return in early July, but acknowledged it was possible that would not come to fruition until after the All-Star break.

L.A. begins the second half of their schedule on July 16 with the opener of a three-game road series against the Colorado Rockies.
