The Los Angeles Dodgers are planning to celebrate more than 90 employees with 25 or more years of service with the organization on Friday in what has become an annual tradition.
Among those who will be recognized are Jaime Jarrín (68 years), Manny Mota (57), John Shoemaker (49), Charlie Hough (46), Rick Monday (41) and Steve Yeager (40).
Although Jarrín retired after the 2022 season, he agreed to remain involved with the organization in an ambassador role. That initially was for two years but he has remained a fixture at Dodger Stadium.
“Representing the Dodgers mainly within the Latino community,” Jarrín explained of his role. “They have asked me to be with them, so I’m going to stay for two years. They wanted me for more than two years, but let’s see.
“I’m sure my love for the Dodgers is not going to end this year. After 64 years, I’ve really fallen in love with baseball and the Dodgers. They have been great with me. They have supported me, they have given me an opportunity. The Dodgers always were behind me. They treated me with respect. One thing I can tell you is I have never had any problem with anybody. I have been very fortunate to have really professional colleagues. They have been great.”
Meanwhile, for Shoemaker, it adds to previously getting recognized by the Ontario Tower Buzzers, the Dodgers’ Single-A affiliate he manages. The Tower Buzzers recently unveiled the John Shoemaker Clubhouse at ONT Field as a permanent tribute to recognize his career that’s been devoted to the Dodgers.
