Dodgers Bullpen Sets Franchise Record Scoreless Innings Streak

The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen set a new franchise record with 36 consecutive scoreless innings pitched from the relievers.

The previous mark was set in 1998 when Dodgers relievers pitched 33 consecutive innings without allowing a run.

Alex Vesia tied that record in the sixth inning of Saturday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers, and then Kyle Hurt broke it in the seventh.

Tanner Scott extended the Dodgers’ bullpen streak in the eighth, and Jonathan Hernández pushed it to 36 consecutive innings in the ninth to finish off the blowout win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The last Dodgers reliever to allow a run was Blake Treinen on May 12 during the seventh inning of a 6-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants. Since that point, the Dodgers have received scoreless appearances from 12 different relief pitchers to combine for the 36 innings entering play Sunday.

Edgardo Henriquez leads the group with 5.1 innings pitched during that stretch, while Hurt follows with five innings. Henriquez was also the pitcher who started the streak, entering the game after Treinen on May 12.

Vesia checks in with 4.2 innings, Scott is just behind him at 4.1, and Treinen is the only other pitcher with more than two innings, coming in with 3.2.

Hernández, Charlie Barnes, Wyatt Mills, Will Klein, Jack Dreyer and Paul Gervase have each thrown two scoreless innings over the streak, and Chayce McDermott finishes off the list with one inning.

The scoreless streak also includes a bullpen game after Blake Snell was scratched from his scheduled start, where the group combined to pitch a complete game shutout against the Los Angeles Angels on May 15.

Klein pitched each of his two innings in that game as the starting pitcher, while each of Henriquez, Treinen, Mills, Hurt, Vesia, Dreyer and Barnes contributed an inning.

Over the stretch, the bullpen has recorded two saves in 11 games, eight of which the Dodgers have won.

Tanner Scott’s resurgence key to Dodgers bullpen

The Dodgers’ bullpen success comes even with the loss of Edwin Díaz due to right elbow surgery. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has credited Scott for stepping up to fill the void without the club’s primary closer.

“Just the way he’s throwing the baseball, efficiency, has really helped us out big with losing Díaz,” Roberts said.

In addition to Diaz, the Dodgers also have Ben Casparius, Jake Cousins, Brusdar Graterol, Evan Phillips, Bobby Miller, Brock Stewart and Dreyer on the injured list, making their success all the more impressive.
