The Los Angeles Dodgers begin a season-long 10-game road trip on Friday and at the outset of it, AM 570 L.A. Sports Radio and SportsNet LA broadcasters will not travel.
“Due to a few members of the Dodgers’ broadcast team having recently tested positive for COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution, the Dodgers have decided to not travel their broadcasters to upcoming games in Philadelphia and Washington,” the Dodgers announced in a statement.
“Similar to the 2020 and 2021 MLB seasons, the games will be broadcast from Los Angeles.”
The announcement suggests broadcasters could be back on the road for the four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks that begins at Chase Field on Thursday, May 26.
The Dodgers broadcast teams rotated personnel between the doubleheader on Tuesday, and the clubhouse was closed off to media following the night game, and again on Wednesday. It marked the first time this season media were barred from the Dodgers clubhouse.
Since the Dodgers released a statement, Jaime Jarrín and Charley Steiner confirmed they are among those who tested positive.
While the Dodgers recently dealt with David Price and Mitch White testing positive, they have remained clear thus far.
“There’s there’s no symptoms in the clubhouse,” manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday morning. “I think that as far as the upstairs, as an organization, we’re all just trying to be very cautious. But as far as in the clubhouse, coaches, training stuff, nothing like that.”
Last September, Joe Davis tested positive for coronavirus and was removed from the booth for a stretch of games. Orel Hershiser also went into a quarantine period due to being a close contact, and later tested positive himself.
After broadcasters were unable to travel during the 2020 and 2021 seasons due to MLB’s health and safety protocols, the Dodgers and several other teams made a return to normalcy this year.
The remote broadcast teams for the first two series of the road trip will consist of Davis and Dontrelle Willis; Rick Monday and José Mota; and Pepe Yñiguez and Fernando Valenzuela.

The Dodgers broadcast team returned Hall of Famer Jaime Jarrín, Davis, Hershiser, Valenzuela, Charley Steiner, Monday, Nomar Garciaparra, Yñiguez, Jerry Hairston Jr., John Hartung, Tim Neverett and Kirsten Watson.
Meanwhile, Adrián Gonzalez, Eric Karros, Jessica Mendoza, Mota and Willis were announced as new additions to the Dodgers broadcast crew. They are filling various roles across Spectrum SportsNet LA, AM 570 L.A. Sports Radio and KTNQ 1020 AM.
