The Los Angeles Dodgers (54-25) are playing outstanding baseball heading into this week’s National League West series against the Arizona Diamondbacks (39-40), who are in danger of falling out of postseason contention if they continue to struggle.
The Dodgers are riding a six-game winning streak into play at Chase Field, where a pair of former teammates will square off in the first pitching matchup on Monday. Los Angeles ace Clayton Kershaw will toe the rubber as a consensus -140 road favorite (wager $140 to win $100) opposite Arizona’s Zack Greinke at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com .
Dodgers at Diamondbacks | OddsShark Matchup Report
Kershaw (7-1, 2.85 ERA) is coming off one of his best starts of the season, throwing seven scoreless innings in a 9-0 rout of the San Francisco Giants last Tuesday, allowing just three hits with two walks and six strikeouts while throwing 100 pitches.
The Dodgers have lost only once in 12 outings with Kershaw on the mound in 2019, and all seven of the wins he has earned this year have been decided by two runs or more.
Meanwhile, Greinke (8-3, 2.91 ERA) is a +130 underdog (wager $100 to win $130) and was a member of the same pitching staff with Kershaw in Los Angeles from 2013-15. Greinke is enjoying another Cy Young-worthy campaign after winning the AL Cy Young Award in 2009 with the Kansas City Royals and finishing second in NL voting in 2015 after Kershaw won it in 2013 and 2014.
Greinke saw a personal two-game winning streak end his last time out versus the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, surrendering five runs and 11 hits in seven innings of a 6-4 defeat after failing to allow a run in either of his previous two starts, with all three coming on the road.
He is 3-1 with a 3.06 ERA in seven home starts but 5-2 with a 2.78 ERA in nine away from Chase Field.
The Dodgers have won four of the past five meetings with the Diamondbacks, according to the OddsShark MLB Database, including a 12-5 victory against Greinke back on March 28 when he gave up seven runs and seven hits – including four home runs – in just 3.2 innings.
The UNDER has cashed in the last three games between the teams following a 5-0 OVER run in the series dating back to late last year.
Arizona ended a six-game losing streak on Sunday with a 3-2 win over the Giants in 10 innings as a -127 road favorite. The Diamondbacks have seen the OVER go 4-0 in their last four games and 7-1 in their past eight, and they are 15-21 at home compared to 24-19 on the road.
The OVER is also on a 4-1 run for Los Angeles, and the team should get at least one more very favorable pitching matchup in the three-game series on Wednesday when Walker Buehler (8-1, 2.96 ERA) faces Arizona’s Taylor Clarke (1-3, 6.48 ERA).
