Alex Call: ‘Pretty Special’ To Hit Home Run At Target Field

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ three-game series with the Minnesota Twins this week represents a homecoming for Alex Call, who grew up less than an hour away from Target Field.

After entering Monday’s series opener as a pinch-runner for the injured Kyle Tucker, Call had his best game of the season in the Dodgers’ 12-3 win on Tuesday night.

Getting the start in right field, Call went 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season, two walks and three runs scored. The 31-year-old was noticeably fired up while rounding the bases on his solo shot in the ninth inning.

“It was super fun,” Call told Kirsten Watson on SportsNet LA after the game. “Had some emotion on the home run. Just really special to be able to do that here, so close to home, after having the camp this morning.

“Just playing the game, having fun, getting on base for the team. That’s what it’s all about. Just really glad I could help out tonight.”

Call also homered at Target Field as a member of the Washington Nationals, which he previously said was his favorite moment of his Major League career. However, his blast on Tuesday has now risen to the top of the list.

“This one is pretty special,” Call acknowledged. “I haven’t played up to my standard the last few weeks, and to have a day like this at home, really feels like me. So much fun. This is definitely going to be one of the top.”

Call had been mired in a 5-for-34 (.147) slump prior to the start of the Dodgers’ series with the Twins. In two games against his hometown team, he has reached base six times across nine plate appearances.

Alex Call’s 2026 stats

Call is hitting .270/.383/.350 with five doubles, one home run and 15 RBI in 120 plate appearances across 48 games entering play Wednesday.

With Tucker expected to be sidelined until at least the start of the weekend due to lower back spasms, Call could continue getting starts in right field for the time being.

“I think that just sort of depends on how he’s feeling coming out of today,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts answered when asked if Tucker would take part in any baseball activities on Wednesday.

“Ideally, he would swing the bat [Wednesday] and do some type of activity to go into the off day,” he said. “But if he doesn’t, then we’ll probably have a tougher decision on Friday.”
