Dodgers Add Zac Rosscup To Active Roster, Walker Buehler Optioned To Triple-A Oklahoma City

As expected, the Los Angeles Dodgers officially added relief pitcher Zac Rosscup to their 25-man active roster. Walker Buehler was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to create room for the left-hander.

The Dodgers claimed Rosscup off waivers from the Colorado Rockies earlier this week. He’s yet to pitch in the Majors in 2018, but shined with the Rockies’ Triple-A Albuquerque affiliate.

In 10 games, he pitched to a 1.08 ERA, with nine strikeouts against three walks across 8.1 innings. Over parts of four seasons with the Chicago Cubs and Rockies, the 30-year-old is 3-1 with a 5.30 ERA, 4.82 FIP and 1.55 WHIP in 71 games.

Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi pointed to Rosscup’s unorthodox delivery and fastball as reasons for the club’s interest in adding the southpaw to their bullpen unit.

This now marks a second time this season the Dodgers have sent Buehler to the Minors in what seemingly was a paper move. Considering he pitched in the opener of the Freeway Series and the All-Star break on the horizon, they could spare not having Buehler on the active roster.

It’s conceivable Buehler may not be needed until the Dodgers’ fifth or sixth game out of the break. The rookie is 4-2 with a 3.45 ERA, 3.00 FIP and 1.08 WHIP in 11 games (10 starts).
