The Los Angeles Dodgers added Jonathan Hernández to their roster and optioned Landon Knack ahead of their series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Knack returns to the Minor Leagues one day after he was recalled as the corresponding move for Seth Halvorsen being optioned.
The right-hander was brought up to give the Dodgers length out of the bullpen as they were short on relievers who were available to pitch on Wednesday.
Knack ended up recording the save, pitching the final 2.2 innings while allowing no runs on two hits against the Kansas City Royals, adding two strikeouts without a walk.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated after the game that another roster move would be coming to add a fresh pitcher to the bullpen.
It was only Knack’s second stint with the Dodgers this season. He was among their pitchers who began the 2026 season on the injured list and wasn’t activated until July 11, where he remained with the team until July 21.
During that span he appeared in two games, throwing a combined five innings and allowing five runs, including two home runs in each appearance.
While with the Comets this season, he’s gone 2-0 with a 2.60 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across five games (four starts). Knack’s most recent appearance at the Triple-A level came on Aug. 5, when he threw 5.1 innings out of the bullpen and allowed just one run.
Jonathan Hernández back with Dodgers
Hernández was designated for assignment on Monday, but rejoins the Dodgers after clearing waivers.
The Dodgers did bring up Paul Gervase to their taxi squad, but instead opted for the veteran.
The 30-year-old last tossed two scoreless innings on Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has appeared in 15 games with the Dodgers, allowing 16 runs in 22.1 innings with 18 strikeouts.
Hernández has been in the Major Leagues parts of six seasons with the Texas Rangers (2019-24), Seattle Mariners (2024) and Dodgers (2026), going 13-8 with a 4.57 ERA and 168 strikeouts in 175.1 innings. He was originally signed on January 30, 2013 by the Texas Rangers as a Minor League free agent.
The right-hander struggled in his first opportunity, pitching to an 8.15 ERA, 6.38 FIP and 1.76 WHIP over 12 appearances with the Dodgers. In his second opportunity, Hernández threw 4.2 innings without allowing a run and giving up just one hit.
Overall with the Comets, he’s posted a 5.24 ERA in 22.1 innings. At the MLB level, Hernández has pitched to a 6.45 ERA in 22.1 innings with 18 strikeouts and a 1.43 WHIP.
