Ahead of Monday’s series opener against the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Dodgers activated Erik Goeddel off the 10-day disabled list and optioned Pat Venditte back to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Goeddel was only forced to miss the minimum 10 days due to inflammation in his right lat. The right-hander has gone a combined 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA in 30 games for the Seattle Mariners and Dodgers. He has struck out 43 and walked 20 in 35.1 innings.
Goeddel started off strong with the Dodgers, tossing 14.1 scoreless innings across his first 13 appearances. He has struggled a bit since then though and overall has pitched to a 3.54 ERA, 4.30 FIP and 1.32 WHIP in 25 appearances with Los Angeles.
Venditte has picked up plenty of frequent flyer miles going back and forth between Oklahoma City and the Majors this season. He was recalled when Kenley Jansen was placed on the disabled list this past weekend in Colorado, although he did not make an appearance.
The switch-pitcher has struggled a bit in his few appearances with the Dodgers, posting an 8.31 ERA, 5.69 FIP and 2.08 WHIP with four strikeouts and one walk in 4.1 innings across five games.
Venditte has been much better with OKC though, yielding a 1.68 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 42 appearances. He has struck out 59 and walked 14 in 48.1 innings. He will likely be back at the big league level soon enough either due to another injury or when rosters expand on Sept. 1.
