The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Tyler Fitzgerald from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations on Tuesday afternoon. To make room on the 40-man roster, Landon Knack was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Fitzgerald was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on April 24. He spent the previous three seasons in the Majors with the San Francisco Giants (2023-25), slashing .252/.309/.430 with 21 homers, 53 RBI, 75 runs scored, 28 stolen bases, a 106 wRC+ and 3.3 WAR.
He had a career year in 2024, batting .280/334/.497 with 15 home runs, 34 RBI and 53 runs scored with 17 stolen bases and a 132 wRC+ in 96 games.
However, Fitzgerald was unable to find similar success in 2025, hitting just .217/.278/.327 with four home runs, 14 RBI, 19 runs scored, and nine stolen bases in 72 games.
He played three games at the start of the 2026 season with Triple-A Sacramento in the San Francisco Giants organization before being designated for assignment on March 30. Fitzgerlad then went 3-for-20 in six games for Triple-A Buffalo.
Fitzgerald has seen time at every infield and outfield position over his MLB career, and he even has three innings as a pitcher.
He figures to report to Triple-A Oklahoma City and serve as organizational depth. Should the Dodgers find themselves in need of a position player soon, he would likely be high on the depth chart for a call-up.
Across seven Minor League seasons, Fitzgerald has accumulated 477 games, batting .260 with 77 homers and 279 RBI. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 Draft by the Giants out of the University of Louisville.
Landon Knack moved to 60-day IL
Knack began the season on the 15-day IL with an intercostal strain, which he sustained on March 13 while throwing a bullpen. His IL stint is retroactive to March 22, making his earliest return date May 21.
It’s unclear where Knack is in his rehab process, but he figures to be unlikely to factor into the Dodgers’ primary pitching plans regardless.
The 28-year-old has thrown 111.1 innings at the MLB level for the Dodgers, posting a 4.12 ERA. He’s appeared in games during both the 2024 and 2025 seasons, primarily as a swingman and replacement starter.
He’s been in the Dodgers organization since being drafted in the second round of the 2020 Draft. Over his Minor League career, the two-time World Series champion has thrown 398 innings with a 4.30 ERA.
