Dodgers Acquire Jake Eder From Nationals; Jake Cousins Transferred To 60-Day IL

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Jake Eder from the Washington Nationals in exchange for cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred Jake Cousins to the 60-day injured list.

Eder was designated for assignment by Washington on March 28.

Eder has played parts of two MLB seasons, making his debut with the Chicago White Sox in 2024 and spending time with the Los Angeles Angels in 2025. He was traded to the Nationals at the 2025 MLB trade deadline, but stayed in the Minor Leagues the rest of the season.

The left-hander has pitched 20.1 innings at the Major League level, posting a 4.87 ERA, 5.25 FIP, 1.33 WHIP, .227 average against, 18.4% strikeout rate and an 11.5% walk rate.

He has not had a ton of Minor League success either, with a 7.86 ERA across 103 Triple-A innings and a 4.21 ERA in 194.2 Double-A innings. However, he has had encouraging strikeout numbers, averaging 10.34 strikeouts per nine innings throughout his Minor League career.

His fastball averages only 93-94 mph, but he has elite extension on his release, meaning the ball comes out of his hand closer to the batter than most other pitchers’, which makes the pitch appear faster to hitters.

He also mixes in a slider, sweeper and changeup in his arsenal, throwing each of them roughly 20% of the time.

Eder will report to Triple-A Oklahoma City and serve as depth for the club. He will likely see some time with the Dodgers this year as they constantly shuffle relievers between their active roster and minors.

Jake Cousins moved to 60-day IL

The Dodgers signed Jake Cousins to an MLB contract and added him to their active roster just as Spring Training came to an end.

Cousins is recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent on June 19, 2025, and was a likely candidate to land on the 60-day IL when the Dodgers needed a roster spot.

The right-hander last pitched for the New York Yankees during the 2024 season, when he was one of their top arms out of the bullpen. He posted a 2.37 ERA across 38 innings while striking out 53 hitters compared to 20 walks.

The Yankees non-tendered Cousins earlier this offseason, making him a free agent. He signed with the Dodgers for $950,000, betting on him returning near the end of the season to provide another quality arm in their bullpen, potentially.
