The Los Angeles Dodgers made one pick on the first day of the 2024 MLB Draft, selecting shortstop Kellon Lindsey out of Hardee High School in Florida at No. 23 overall.

The 18-year-old is a former quarterback who rose up draft boards after committing to baseball full-time. He has a run grade of 75 and is often compared to former Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner. There are questions about his hit tool, but the Dodgers believe he can improve with a full-time baseball commitment.

Lindsey is verbally committed to attend the University of Florida but plans to forego college in order to sign with the Dodgers, via Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times:

Lindsey said he plans to sign with the Dodgers rather than play college baseball.

The No. 23 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft comes with a $3,676,400 slot value, but the Dodgers will likely try to sign Lindsey below that amount to improve their chances of inking other selections.

Lindsey, who stands 6’2 and is listed at 175 lbs, improved defensively during the spring and should be capable of sticking at shortstop.

There are areas for growth at the plate and some power could come with Lindsey adding on strength. He hit .403/.567/.597 in 25 games as a senior this year.

If Lindsey signs with the Dodgers as planned, he would join Joendry Vargas and Emil Morales as highly regarded shortstop prospects in the organization.
