Zac Rosscup first joined the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2018 season when he was claimed off waivers from the Colorado Rockies, but after being released in November, he went on to sign a contract with the Seattle Mariners.

Rosscup was released by the Mariners in May, then claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. His time in Toronto was short-lived as he was designated for assignment shortly after. Rosscup returned to the Dodgers by signing a Minor League contract.

Movement didn’t stop there, however, as Rosscup was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for cash considerations. The Cardinals marked a fourth team he was part of this past season.

Rosscup only appeared in four games for the Dodgers, allowing three runs (two earned) in just three innings pitched. His final appearance in the Majors this year came with L.A. on July 14, when he walked the lone batter faced.

The Dodgers designated Rosscup for assignment on July 15 in a corresponding move to recalling Casey Sadler from Triple-A Oklahoma City. He cleared waivers and was sent outright to OKC.

The 31-year-old didn’t fare much better for Oklahoma City, where he was 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in nine games. Rosscup was marginally better for the Cardinals’ Triple-A Memphis affiliate, sporting a 4.50 ERA over eight appearances.

2019 highlight

Last year Rosscup completed an immaculate inning but his results with the Dodgers in 2019 didn’t come close to matching that highlight. He did complete a scoreless inning against the Colorado Rockies — albeit in a losing effort.

2020 outlook

Rosscup remains under club control and figures to again serve as organizational depth. What could work against him is the new rule taking effect in 2020 that will require all pitchers to face at least three batters or complete a half-inning.
