Major League Baseball unveiled the 2017 Spring Training Collection of caps, jerseys, batting practice jerseys, and more, for all 30 clubs on Friday. The Los Angeles Dodgers once more will don two hats during Cactus League play.
One is their traditional blue cap with the grey bill, which features an ‘LA’ logo, for road games. The second is the return of the all-blue hat with a ‘D’ embroidery (matching the “D” on the Dodgers’ jerseys), which was introduced last spring.
The Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays are all unveiling new cap designs this spring.
The Arizona (Cactus League) and Florida (Grapefruit League) patches have been moved to from the left side to the right of hats, with the New Era logo taking its previous place.
New Era’s logo first began being included on authentic caps for the 2016 American League Wild Card Game.
For a second straight year, names and numbers on the backs of jerseys feature a Spring Training design. There’s little change to the pattern, with the most notable difference from last year being a change to 2017.
Along with introducing a variety of Stance socks, which is the official sock of MLB, a new three-quarters-sleeve batting practice jersey is available to players and fans.
The ‘Train to Reign’ moniker from 2016 Spring Training returns, appearing on sweatshirts, t-shirts and other items.
Dodgers pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Position players are due in camp five days later, and the first full-squad workout is scheduled Tuesday, Feb. 21. The Dodgers begin Cactus League play on Saturday, Feb. 25, against their Camelback Ranch co-tenant Chicago White Sox.
