DodgerHeads: Predicting Dodgers Free Agency; MLB Awards Reaction

The Los Angeles Dodgers are three weeks removed from winning their first World Series since 1988 and while free agency is underway, the team has yet to make any significant transactions.

To this point the only activity from the Dodgers was declining their team option on Jimmy Nelson for the 2021 season, and sending Terrance Gore outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City but he then became a Minor League free agent.

With the futures of Pedro Baez, Kiké Hernandez, Jake McGee, Joc Pederson, Blake Treinen, Justin Turner and Alex Wood undecided, “DodgerHeads” host Jeff Spiegel and DodgerBlue.com managing editor Matthew Moreno did a Dodgers free agency forecast.

The two predicted what they believe will come to fruition for Hernandez, Pederson, Turner, et al. — be it with the Dodgers or other clubs.

Spiegel and Moreno also touched on potential trade options, such as Francisco Lindor and Josh Hader. The conversation additionally included marquee free agents Trevor Bauer and DJ LeMahieu, among others.

Interestingly, Spiegel and Moreno both agree there could be a package the Dodgers put together that entices the Milwaukee Brewers to part with their All-Star closer. Such a deal would require the Dodgers to trade from a position of depth within the organization.

At the end of the show, Spiegel and Moreno outlined how they would spend $25 million on free agents or via trades.

MLB Awards season

Mookie Betts won a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award, and he and Kiké Hernandez each took home a Fielding Bible Award, but the Dodgers otherwise were shut out. That didn’t come as much of a surprise to the “DodgerHeads” crew, but Moreno did explain how the Chicago Cubs’ David Ross being a National League Manager of the Year finalist opened the door for some criticism.
