On the latest episode of “DodgerHeads,” DodgerBlue.com’s Jeff Spiegel and Daniel Starkand discussed all the latest news and rumors surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Among the hard-hitting topics they touched on were the recent rumors connecting Nelson Cruz to the Dodgers. Cruz had been waiting to see if there will be a designated hitter in the National League before signing, but has since agreed to return to the Minnesota Twins.
Had it been clear a universal DH was going to be implemented this season, reports indicated Cruz had interest in joining the Dodgers.
Whether the Dodgers would have wanted to add a 40-year-old who can’t play the field is unclear, although there is no denying Cruz’s yearly offensive output and what adding him to the lineup would have meant.
In another move around the league, the Colorado Rockies officially traded Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals. Spiegel and Starkand discussed how that affects the Dodgers, who have had interest with Arenado in the past.
While the Dodgers’ offseason has been relatively quiet, they recently lost a key player with Joc Pederson signing a one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs. A big part of the “DodgerHeads” episode was bidding farewell to Pederson, as well as talking about who within the organization can replace him and Kiké Hernandez.
Latest MLB discussions
Perhaps the most timely topic that discussed was on MLB’s negotiations with the Players Association for the 2021 season. To no surprise, the two sides are struggling to come to an agreement on when to start the season, if there will be an expanded postseason and universal DH, as well as a number of other topics.
It remains to be seen if they will be able to come to an agreement, but with the expected start of Spring Training just around the corner, MLB announced that the plan is to start on time and have a full 162-game season.
Other miscellaneous topics include Keibert Ruiz as a trade chip, potential free agency fits and more.
