With pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training this week, the Major League Baseball offseason has come and gone, and the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers were among the more active teams once the dust finally settled.
The Dodgers stayed quiet for most of the winter, although they have made a handful of moves in recent weeks, which made for an action-packed episode of “DodgerHeads” on Monday night.
DodgerBlue.com’s Jeff Spiegel and Daniel Starkand began the show by discussing the team’s re-signing of Justin Turner, who will be back for at least two more seasons.
Whether or not Turner would re-sign was a huge topic of discussion on “DodgerHeads” all offseason long, and the two sides wound up coming to an agreement just before the final bell of the offseason.
What are the Dodgers getting in Turner, who is entering his age-36 season, and did the team overpay by giving him $34 million?
Moving on from Turner, Spiegel and Starkand then discussed a pair of trades the Dodgers made in the last week, including sending Adam Kolarek to the Oakland Athletics and Dylan Floro to the Miami Marlins.
What is the bullpen losing in those two relievers, and what are they getting in the prospects they acquired?
In addition to re-signing Turner and making a pair of trades, the Dodgers also avoided arbitration by agreeing to two-year contract extensions with both Walker Buehler and Austin Barnes in what was a really eventful week.
Many are not familiar with the arbitration process, so Spiegel and Starkand discussed what these extensions mean for both the players and the organization.
Favorite Dodgers players
As always, the show was closed out by answering fan mailbag questions, which included one about favorite Dodgers. Both lists were very different, although the two players that made each were Clayton Kershaw and Adrian Beltre.
