DodgerHeads: Dodgers Postseason Heroes, Recapping World Series Win

One week removed from the Los Angeles Dodgers winning their first World Series since 1988, DodgerBlue.com managing editor Matthew Moreno joined “DodgerHeads” host Jeff Spiegel to put the finishing touches on the 2020 season.

That began with Moreno and Spiegel identifying the players they believe will be remembered for their contributions throughout the postseason. The two alternated selections, though there was an agreement on Corey Seager being the Dodgers’ No. 1 ‘hero’ in October.

Seager put together a historic postseason showing that saw him earn MVP honors in both the National League Championship Series and World Series. He became just the eighth player in MLB history to earn the honor in the NLCS and World Series in the same postseason.

“He does everything right,” Mookie Betts raved about Seager. “It wasn’t just the postseason. He did it all year. He was huge for us all year and steady the whole time. Constantly getting two, three, four hits. That’s huge in a lineup like ours. Everything he did was amazing.

“He deserves everything that has come his way and is coming his way. He’s a great dude, great teammate. Seags is the man, and he proved it.”

As Moreno and Spiegel continued to name their standout performers, a clear theme inadvertently developed. Though, Moreno changed that with giving his final nod to Blake Treinen, who pitched three consecutive days on three separate instances during the postseason.

The mention of Treinen also raised a question about free agency, which was a bit of a precursor to an upcoming “DodgerHeads” episode.

Dodgers free agents

MLB free agency began the morning after the World Series concluded, which for the Dodgers amounted to Pedro Baez, Kiké Hernandez, Jake McGee Joc Pederson, Treinen, Justin Turner and Alex Wood no longer being under contract.

Jimmy Nelson joined that group when the Dodgers declined their club option for 2021 and paid a buyout worth a reported $500,000.
