A viral video of Dodger Stadium appeared to suggest the parking lots under some water as Tropical Storm Hilary made its way through Southern California on Sunday. However, it was merely an optical illusion.

Downtown Los Angeles did receive 2.99 inches of rain, which shattered the previous August 20 record of 0.03 inch since data tracking began in 1877. Los Angeles International Airport got 2.54 inches of rain.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had been scheduled to play a series finale against the Miami Marlins but instead held a split doubleheader on Saturday in the wake of a Tropical Storm Watch being issued for Southern California.

It was in effect for area from San Diego deserts to the San Bernardino County mounts, along with Catalina Island. According to the National Hurricane Center, it represented the first such warning ever issued for the region.

All is well. ☀️

On Monday morning, David Vassegh of AM 570 L.A. Sports radio and the Dodgers both shared Dodger Stadium photos of improved conditions.

Dodger Stadium parking lots remained a little slick but without any signs of visible damage, such as fallen trees or lights.

Meanwhile, the Dodger Stadium field appeared to be in good condition despite a tarp not being rolled out. Of course, that wasn’t necessary considering the Dodgers departed Monday for the start of a six-game road trip against the Cleveland Guardians and Boston Red Sox.

In Vassegh’s picture, some pitchers are seen playing catcher prior to needing to bus over to the airport for the chartered flight.

Bobby Miller is lined up to start Tuesday’s series opener at Progressive Field, with Noah Syndergaard facing his former teammates. Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to pitch Wednesday, and Lance Lynn is the likely probable for the series finale.

Dodger Stadium rainouts history

There have been 17 rainouts in Dodger Stadium history, with the most recent coming on on April 17, 2000, against the San Diego Padres. Though, some may argue Sunday’s game against the Marlins could be classified as a ‘rainout.’

But considering the Dodgers took preemptive action, they have played an MLB record 1,874 home games without a rainout.

The last rain delay at Dodger Stadium was April 7, 2015, also against the Padres. It was the first rain delay since May 23, 2008.

The 2023 Dodgers home opener appeared to be at risk of a rainout because of inclement weather, but it cleared from Dodger Stadium prior to first pitch.
