The Los Angeles Dodgers were active at the 2025 MLB trade deadline, but they failed to make the splash most fans were hoping for.
They were often connected to players such as Steven Kwan, Jhoan Duran, Mason Miller and Ryan Helsley, but instead settled on adding Brock Stewart, Alex Call and a few prospects.
Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres were the most aggressive team, making a blockbuster trade for Miller while also adding J.P. Sears, Ryan O’Hearn, Ramón Laureano, Freddy Fermin and Nestor Cortes.
The New York Mets were also busy making impact moves, trading for Helsley, Cedric Mullins, Gregory Soto and Tyler Rogers. The Philadelphia Phillies made one of the biggest trades of the deadline by acquiring Duran, along with Harrison Bader and Matt Manning.
The Dodgers could face any of those teams in the postseason, but manager Dave Roberts isn’t worried about what those opposing clubs did at the deadline.
“In all honesty, I don’t think it affects us,” Roberts said. “A lot of teams got better, and that’s what teams try to do that are competing at the deadline.
“But I think for us, I love the core of our club, and certainly with the guys we have coming back. It really doesn’t affect us. We’ve just got to focus on ourselves.
“I know it sounds trite and boring, but we’ve got play our own baseball. If we do that, I feel we’re the best team.”
While the Dodgers didn’t make splashy moves, Stewart and Call were both solid additions to the roster and filled needs. Both should make an impact for the club not just this year, but in the future as well.
L.A. didn’t give up many assets to add the pair of players, trading James Outman and two low-level pitching prospects. The Dodgers also traded Dustin May and Hunter Feduccia to further solidify their farm while adding another potential impact reliever.
Dodgers confident in roster talent
Instead of making a major move, the Dodgers are betting on both their current stars to turn things around, and also players who are expected to return from the injured list.
“I think we have guys on the horizon that are coming back that will obviously be a big boost to this team and feel confident that the current group, that like I said while playing well and performing, we haven’t even come close to playing our best baseball,” Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said.
“As we saw last year, what’s most important is to peak at the right time. Hit our stride in the second half and be strong going into October. Like I said, the belief in this group and what we can accomplish, is really strong. Feel great about what we can do.”
