When the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees it gave them an eighth World Series title in franchise history and second in the last four years.
Battling a flurry of injuries and shuffling pieces within their pitching staff, the Dodgers maneuvered their way to a deciding 4–1 series win over the Yankees.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts put on a masterclass with his decision-making, and that’s been followed by the front office aggressively looking to improve the roster for 2025.
The organization is in a unique position with their talent, financial might and winning culture. That’s further fueled early anticipation — if not an expectation — of the Dodgers repeating as World Series champions.
The possibility is not one Roberts is shying away from as he believes it would put the Dodgers in rare company, per Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times:
“I really feel that the carrot, the incentive for our club, in 2025, is now you’re getting into legacy territory,” Roberts said. “I talked to Magic about legacy and [former Lakers coach] Pat Riley and what he instilled in those guys, the mindset. That’s something I’m going to try to [instill] in our guys because now we’re trying to do something that will last forever.”
Roberts is already one of Major League Baseball’s most successful managers, being the second-longest tenured skipper currently at the helm.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are looking to become MLB’s first repeat champion since the Yankees won three championships in a row from 1998-2000.
Dave Roberts’ career as Dodgers manager
In his time as Dodgers manager, Roberts is 851-506 during the regular season. He’s won the National League West in eight of nine years as manager.
Making four trips to the World Series since 2017, Roberts has four NL Pennants and two titles. Roberts won the 2016 NL Manager of the Year Award in his first season with the Dodgers.
