Dave Roberts Impressed By Dodgers Prospect Zyhir Hope

Zyhir Hope has made tremendous strides since the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired him in a trade with the Chicago Cubs last year, emerging as one of the organization’s top prospects.

Hope was among the Dodgers prospects in big league camp for 2025 Spring Training, and impressed many of those around him, including manager Dave Roberts.

“Really good,” Roberts described his impression of Hope.

“Zyhir, he’s one of those guys that obviously put himself on the radar last year. We’re going to be hearing a lot more about him. If you can put together a young player with the makeup and skillset, he’s the guy.”

Hope is coming off a year that saw him hit .290/.419/.484 with 16 doubles, nine home runs, 36 RBI and nine stolen bases across two Minor League levels.

The 20-year-old looked to carry that success over into Cactus League play this year. He at one point had a three-game hitting streak, but batted just .191/.227/.381 with one double, one home run and three RBI in 22 plate appearances.

Along with showing promise at the plate, Hope also made highlight-reel catches in both corner outfield positions.

The former 11th-round draft pick was sent to Minor League camp at the start of March and likely won’t factor into the Dodgers’ plans this year. However, Hope should be making the jump to Double-A Tulsa for the first time in his career.

Zyhir Hope picked for breakout season

Hope went from an unranked prospect to becoming the No. 8 player on Baseball Prospectus’ top 101 list for the 2025 season.

MLB executives seem to be just as high on Hope as he was the leading vote-getter in a recent poll for breakout prospect of the year.
