Dave Roberts ‘Hopes Dodgers Fans Aren’t Mad’ For Super Bowl 58 Rooting Interest

Super Bowl 58 is here with the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While the conclusion of the NFL season usually represents the start of baseball season, this year is different. Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers and catchers have already reported to Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona, for the start of Spring Training, and many position players are there as well.

The Dodgers’ schedule was moved up due to their season opener in South Korea against the San Diego Padres taking place roughly a week before every other team plays.

With the team already in camp, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared who he is rooting for in the Super Bowl, and hopes it doesn’t upset fans in L.A., via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

Dave Roberts said he is friends with 49ers GM John Lynch so he will be rooting for the Niners today. "I hope the #Dodgser fans aren't mad at me" for rooting for a San Francisco team

Thankfully for Roberts, Dodgers fans aren’t too fond of Missouri either, with the St. Louis Cardinals presenting one of their primary postseason rivals over the past decade. Many Dodgers fans also became 49ers fans with no pro football team in Los Angeles for a long stretch of time.

49ers general manager John Lynch is looking to win his second Super Bowl, with his first coming as a player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 37.

Although he was an All-Pro safety in the NFL, Lynch also had a short baseball career after being drafted by the then-Florida Marlins in the second round of the 1992 MLB Draft.

He played two Minor League seasons, posting a 2.35 ERA over nine starts.

Lynch’s 49ers are now looking to prevent the Chiefs from becoming the first back-to-back Super Bowl champion since the 2003-2004 New England Patriots.

Only eight teams in NFL history have won the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons, and just six more have made it in consecutive years but lost the second of the two games.

Tyler Glasnow shares Super Bowl 58 prediction

Although Tyler Glasnow is admittedly not much of a fan of the NFL, he still made his guess for the winner of the game, without much confidence.

“Not any good ones. I can assume,” Glasnow said when asked if he has a prediction. “I feel like the Chiefs are going to win. But again, I don’t know anything, so who knows?”
