Dave Roberts: Dodgers ‘Very Excited’ For 2024 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of a historic offseason, having added Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto to an already star-studded roster.

The Dodgers were likely good enough to get back to the postseason before the aforementioned acquisitions but now are considered the overwhelming favorites to win the World Series. “We are very excited to get going,” manager Dave Roberts said.

“I think that we all love our time with the family, but I was telling Gomer (Brandon Gomes), I was talking to Tyler Glasnow on the way up here and trying to temper our excitement because once we get started, we don’t stop for quite some time.

“But we’re all excited. We got a lot of great players, the best organization in all sports, attendance speaks to that. So I think we’re just all excited for the city of Los Angeles.”

After spending more than $1.1 billion to acquire Ohtani, Glasnow and Yamamoto, the Dodgers likely still have some work to do before Spring Training workouts begin in February.

The team is looking to improve their starting pitching depth and remain interested in re-signing Clayton Kershaw. L.A. may also look to add another outfielder or upgrade at shortstop.

And while the bullpen appears set, there is a belief the Dodgers could sign one of the top remaining free-agent relief pitchers such as Josh Hader, Jordan Hicks or Robert Stephenson.

Dave Roberts undecided on Dodgers lineup order

As Roberts looks ahead to the 2024 season, he will have many options when constructing the top three spots of the Dodgers lineup.

“Funny story, the other day we were all in the training room with the players, and Freddie and Shohei were there with some other guys and Freddie dropped the bomb on me,” Roberts said at Ohtani’s press conference.

“He said ‘Who’s hitting second and who’s hitting third?’ So I think we’re just going to all get together, but those are two great options.”
